First Annual UGM Graduation Ceremony!

The Union Gospel Mission celebrated its First Annual Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the Graduates from our New Life Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program. The event kicked of with a time of worship with music from "Bands Name". The event was held at Capital Christian Center, they generously donated their facilities for our event.

The event was a smashing success, as several churches united to make this an event to remember for the Graduates. Capital Christian Center, Last Days Harvest Ministries and Sheridan Baptist Church donated the suits for the men to wear to the graduation and to take with them as they begin their lives back in the work force.

The Ceremony began with a prayer and a speech by the Director, Pastor Tim Lane, and President of the Board, Vince Harris. The charge was given by Pastor Glen Cole, a moving speech on stewardship & servant hood. The event ended with food and fellowship, with delicious treats donated by Fresh and Quick Catering.

Among all of the festivities, we are reminded of exactly what it is we are called to do here at the Union Gospel Mission. These graduates came to the Mission broken and hungry, and God met the need of their heart. How wonderful it is to see lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Here at the Union Gospel Mission, we know that none of this would have been possible without the faithful support of our donors. Thank you, for helping to change lives of the broken and hurting, here at the Union Gospel Mission.

Teeing Off For The Homeless

Make plans for a fun-filled day at Serrano Country Club on September 18, 2006. The day will start with a putting contest followed by a BBQ lunch on the patio. Then play 18 holes of golf on a beautiful course and afterward enjoy a delicious banquet in the dining room with a drawing and auctions for some fabulous prizes! (Including a week in Hawaii.) There will be also prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, first, second and third place finishes, etc. There are two hole-in-one prize opportunities --- one for a new car and another for $5,000 cash. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Unlocking The Value Of Your Real Estate

Recent increases in the value of real estate have been remarkable! Many people never dreamed their homes and rental properties would appreciate so much! The tax law included a provision, called the Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) that helps you unlock the value of your properties. Your qualified estate planning attorney creates a charitable trust to which you donate your properties as a charitable gift.

Here are a few of the many benefits:

Your CRT provides income for you.
Your CRT reduces your income tax liability.
Your CRT defers capital gains tax obligations.
    You stop dealing with tenants.
    Your CRT blesses your heirs.
    Your CRT helps the homeless.

For a specific illustration of how a CRT might work for you call Rev. Joe Caldwell, toll-free at 877.331.0929, or inquire by email:

CHAPLAIN'S CORNER
 By Chaplain Mike Pope

The Bible says, "… if any man come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me".  Many have followed Christ in word, but have failed to follow him in deed.  To the religious leaders of the day Jesus said, "... This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

God wants us to worship him in Spirit and in truth.  Jesus requires of every disciple the denial of self.  Mark 8:35 tell us that when we give our lives for the sake of the Gospel, we find true life in Christ. This sacrifice and suffering is what brings us to an even deeper relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We never forget that a relationship with Christ is the first step in recovery for the homeless and hurting. You, our faithful donors, make it possible to hold out the hope of the Gospel night after night. May God bless you for your sacrifice and service!

~Deborah's Closet~

The Union Gospel Mission was happy to celebrate the Grand Opening of our Women’s Clothes Closet on June 1, 2006. The process of refurbishing the building was slow, but the result was a beautiful boutique-styled interior with two dressing rooms, and a hair salon. There are several clothing racks and shelves filled with new and used clothing, shoes and toiletries that speak of the generous contributions from donors and God's wonderful provision. We are excited that women will have the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ during a weekly Bible Study and have clothing available to them. Lastly we are also thankful to our dedicated volunteers for their hard work, without them, this would not have been possible.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!

The Mission needs many volunteers for a variety of jobs in the coming months. If you, your family, church or youth group would like to help those in need,

DIRECTORS CORNER
  By Pastor Tim Lane

When people think of a rescue mission, they think of a soup kitchen. But, the Union Gospel Mission offers much more than a nutritious meal. This is a place where miracles happen!

Here at the UGM, we feed over 6000 meals a month. 84 men sleep each night safe from the dangers of the street. Clean, fresh clothes, showers and toiletries are provided every day of the week.

Food baskets are supplied to working families in our community. On Holidays the UGM provides pre-paid calling cards for the homeless to call their relatives.

We also offer a nine-month, Bible Based rehabilitation program, free of charge. This is a place where men can come to escape the endless cycle of addiction.

So you see, giving to the Union Gospel Mission, is more than feeding the hungry. You are a VITAL part of making miracles happen, every day!
